When a Hurricane, tornado or, earthquake, strikes what technology can help you most?  Here are tips provided by Theresa Payton, former White House CIO.

Theresa suggests keeping multiple power sources charged so you can charge your phone when cell service is restored.  Use portable batteries or even old laptops as chargers.

When the Internet is up “check in” on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/crisisresponse) and Red Cross safe search sites (https://safeandwell.communityos.org/zf/safe/add).  If you need help call 911 but also post on social media as much information as you can so people can find and help you.

On Twitter, sign up to receive important alerts from FEMA.  https://twitter.com/fema/alerts

And, if all services are down, make sure you have a paper map for routing and a family emergency plan.
