Viewer Jim sent in the following question: Why should I care if I am using a Wi-Fi or cellular signal?
Cellular signals are transmitted through towers located throughout the country and are managed by companies such as Sprint, AT&T, Verizon. As part of you cellular plan you are paying to send and receive voice, text, and video via those towers.
A Wi-Fi signal uses a wireless router located in a home or business to send your data to a modem that is connected an internet through a internet service provider such as a cable company. You are not charged for to send and receive data through wifi.
Typically your smartphone will automatically connect to wi-fi when available.
