I have four kids and as much as I love technology, I can’t be naive about what happens online. Sexual extortion is rampant.
Sextortion happens when a predator, disguised as a friendly person, asks a child to take and send a partially nude picture. The two may meet on Facebook, Instagram, or in a game chatroom. Then, the predator tells the child they will share the photos or tell their parents, unless they take another picture that exposes even more. The cycle continues. Younger kids are most vulnerable.
As parents, you can install monitoring apps, wait until kids are older to get a phone and talk with your kids about these issues. What gets posted online stays online.
Help your kids make smart decisions.
