Jill emailed: I’m buying a new computer. What is the difference between Memory & Storage?
These terms are frequently confused. Storage is what holds data on your computer. The more storage you have the more files, videos, and applications you can store on your personal computer. A typical PC can have anywhere from 250 GB to a TB hard drive.
Memory is what is used to run and process applications while they are open. The more memory you have the more apps you can have open at the same time – like videos, photos, and spreadsheets. A typical PC will have roughly 4 to 16 GB of Memory.
If you are a heavy computer user, I recommend a PC with more Storage & Memory.
