Tech Tip Today – Widget vs App

Joe asked: What is the difference between a widget and an app on Android Phones.

This is a confusing topic for many Android users. Widgets are like small apps that are typically designed for a specific task like clock display or Google search.

But many full-featured apps from the Google Play store come with a corresponding widget that displays real time app data without having to open the full app. It is like a window into the app information. Popular examples include seeing your email messages, Dropbox folders or Facebook posts on the home screen. Widgets often act as a shortcut link to the mobile app, which contains all the features & functionality.
